Our questions have been answered and we now know how Milo Ventimiglia‘s character Jack Pearson died on the NBC series This Is Us.
Ever since the beginning of the hit series, a mystery has surrounded how Jack passed away, though we were given clues to it being in a fire.
During the previous episode, we saw that the Pierson house went on fire due to a faulty switch on a Crock-Pot slow cooker. The Super Bowl episode began with Jack waking up to the smell of smoke and discovering the house up in flames.

Jack was able to get his wife Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and kids Randall (Sterling K. Brown as an adult) and Kate (Chrissy Metz as an adult) out of the house safely. Kevin (Justin Hartley as an adult) wasn’t in the house at the time. When Jack was about to jump off the roof to safety, the family dog started barking from inside and young Kate started frantically yelling for the dog to come out. Jack decided to run back into the house to get the dog.
While you may have thought Jack died inside the house, he emerged from the front door with the dog and also family photos and home videos.
Jack later died at the hospital, where he was to be treated for a burn. He went into cardiac arrest from the smoke inhalation and had a widow maker heart attack.
