Tiffany Haddish had one heck of a night at the Oscars. The Girls Trip actress rocked two dresses during the night, including a repeat of an outfit she wore both on SNL and to the Girls Trip premiere. The actress had higher goals for the Oscars than just a fashion joke, however. She also used her opportunity to speak with Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet to pitch her idea for having Meryl Streep sign on for Girls Trip 2. According to Haddish:
Without any context, that statement might read a little strangely, but Tiffany Haddish has previously spoken out about how she would like Meryl Streep to play her mother in Girls Trip 2. Of course, we’re a few steps away from the sequel actually happening. First of all, Universal hasn’t even greenlighted Girls Trips 2, yet, although Haddish has seemed openly keen on the possibility, and producer Will Packer has stated those involved have been “talking about it.” If the sequel does move forward, it would still be a few steps to getting Meryl Streep on board, but hey, you gotta respect Tiffany Haddish for her tenacity.
When I say tenacity, I mean it. Tiffany Haddish really stuck to her word, at least about attempting to meet Meryl Streep at the Oscars and doing the legwork necessary to eventually achieve her goal. The actress and comedienne also made a daring dash back onto the red carpet as Meryl Streep was wandering along, waiting for the opportune moment to meet the veteran actress. You can check out the full exchange, below.
Later in the night, Tiffany Haddish had another major moment when she appeared onstage with Maya Rudolph in her now-infamous red carpet dress, prompting some people on the Internet to state that Rudolph and Haddish should totally host next year. It’ll likely be some time before anyone makes big decisions about the 2019 Oscars broadcast, but considering the ratings related to this year’s ceremony, perhaps next year the 91st Academy Awards should shake things up somewhat.
In addition, CinemaBlend will obviously let you know if Girls Trip 2 gets greenlighted. In the meantime, you can catch Tiffany Haddish in Night School with Kevin Hart, Uncle Drew, and The Last O.G series.
